Complete transformation of this charming cape with the best of city living in the suburbs!
Before I start posting fall containers, I want to share some garden installations that are growing into their glory. This sweet cape sits on a small slope in the heart of beautiful downtown Wellesley. It’s sideview was screaming to be softened. That is a “Twombleys Red Sentinel “ Japanese maple in the center which will eventually reach the second story. It’s a rare species with a tall slender habit. I love it flanked by the oak leaf hydrangea to pick up it’s burgundy hue and the arborvitae (which could not be happier)! The Kousa dogwood was a game changer in that spot, not only from the road but from inside the home as well as their front landing. Switching out the window boxes from the hay baskets to classic black boxes, finished off this gem. Swipe for the before.
Stay tuned for photos of the backyard transformation.
Backyard garden makeover for a wedding in 5 days? LET’S GO!!
I took on this job five days before their Labor Day weekend wedding. My first suggestion was to completely re-design the landscape around this charming cottage/pool house focal point. The living room is all windows and looks out on this tiny cottage. With the home’s tutor style architecture it was screaming for an English vibe perennial garden to properly showcase it. I love the weave of these perennials with the evergreens. We’ve ordered a custom treillage for the stone wall next to the window. It will be stunning in semi gloss black to match the cottage trim with white climbing rose. It will also be gorgeous in the winter time from inside the living room with the inkberry and hellebore. I repurposed and potted two of the sky pencils and lined them with moss to soften the shower attached to the cottage. I also moved 2 potted boxwood they had in their flower bed under the cottage window and potted them with moss and annuals. I love how it looks like its own tiny house complete with its own charming landscaping. I can’t wait to plant perennials for spring and summer! SWIPE to see the BEFORE!
In front of this cottage is the most spectacular pool and gardens. For the wedding, I planted 17 containers and numerous perennials. I will save that for another post. I’m hoping to have wedding photos soon.
Did I mention this was a five day turnaround? This client was a dream and I loved every minute!
This was a complete front garden makeover. I love how the symmetry of the design compliments the classic balanced architecture of this “salt box cape”. Eventually the “Bobo” hydrangea will reach the windowsill lining up with the horizon and waterfront, drawing your eye to the spectacular view. All of the pre-existing shrubs and perennials were transplanted on the property.
The beachy perennial garden vignettes around the mailbox and lampposts set the stage for the breathtaking sea view of this hidden gem! The watery hues of salvia, lavender, Veronica, yarrow, and sage lead your eye to the ocean view. The inkberry are a nod to the front garden and the perfect compact evergreen. Swipe for the before.
We are so fortunate to be designing the landscaping for this spectacular Rhode Island waterfront home. One of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. The reflection in the window is what they see from coffee to cocktails!!
